Sounds like a good deal. The cost is about $1,500. less than average for that year and milage.

I think these cars are a good buy because they are comfortable, not as complex as the 2002+ models, thankfully have no iDrive system, and also have a more pleasant and understated exterior design.

Repair cost will be somewhat expensive, but less than a Mercedes S-Class from late '90's. Just find a good mechanic and keep up with the maintenance, and you should have a very enjoyable car for the money.

I would not do it.

-very expensive to repair
-electrical systems problematic
-usually only dealer can do repairs
-BMW parts for 10 yr old car hard to come by
-even with regular maintenance, will need repairs
-not very reliable
-even routine maintenance will be costly

It is a very nice vehicle that rides and handles well. But the potential downside ($3000+ repair and laid up for a month) are too great for me. Get a Lexus LS400/430. You will give up some sportiness, but it is just as luxurious and will run without problems for 200000 miles.
