I don't think it's a problem at all. I have a 2 year old son & every now & then I'll hear him talking in his sleep.. he'll mention things that he was doing or playing w/ that day. For instance, last night he couldn't find his Pablo toy (from the Backyardigans) and I guess it stuck in his mind. So in the middle of the night I could here him tossing around saying "where is it, pabo (as he puts it) where is pabo"... I think it's normal & quite adorable I must say!
I, too, tend to talk in my sleep (usually about the day's events or whatever emotions were brewing earlier).
Your son will be just fine!

No one is really sure why people talk in their sleep, but children are prone to it. They say that keeping a regular bedtime and wake up schedule, also not eating a lot before bedtime, and getting plenty sleep helps to alleviate this. It has been associated with sleep apnea, REM disorder, or anxiety.
You asked for a scientific explanation so I tried to list some, but I think that it is not that complicated. I have a 7 mos old who talks in her sleep. We laugh as she babbles away and kicks her legs, her Dr. is not worried. Talk to your Dr. if you are concerned but I know many parents who have stated this about their kids.

I don't know what kind of explanation to give ya, but i don't think its anything to worry about. One of my twin sons (2 1/2 years old) does the same thing. Truthfully i just find it amusing. I like to listen and see what he happens to say. Usually its random words. I don't know why some kids do this, but it doesn't interupt my sons sleep, and if it doesn't interupt your sons, then its probably alright. :-)

This is fairly normal , as some children talk in their sleep whilst others don't. My daughter is 10 and still talks in her sleep and has since she could talk.
