I buy the little packages of leaves & they turn black b4 I can use them.

what I do is to split up the entire pack into mini portions that I will likely use later. Then freeze half to 3/4 of those mini packs and keep the rest in the chiller. this way, you won't have to defrost the entire bag for that one small portion that you need.

Fresh basil leaves are effectively living plants. If you don't take care of them, they will die; what you're seeing is fungus consuming the dead leaves. To keep them as long as possible, keep them refrigerated or frozen. If you can get a whole plant, hang it up somewhere (upside down) and let it dry.

Better still - buy some seed and grow your own - then you will always have fresh basil!

wrap em up in a damp paper towel and put them in the fridge. keep the basil away from the airflow outlet.

i put mine in an airtight container on the shelf...away from direct sunlight.
