I took the pup to have a hernia corrected but where the vet operated, a hard lump has now appeared, 3 days after surgery. He seems to be struggling with what to do next. I personally think the pup was too young for this type of surgery. The pup is active, eating and in no pain. I live in Thailand so experieced vetinarians are hard to find. The vet wants to try and do the operation again but I'm reluctant. Are there any qualified people out there that can give me genuine advice. Thank you.

i would be worried as well as the hard lump is scar tissue which will not go away and in some cases can cause obstruction leading to a torsion which is fatal...the vet will have to remove all scar tissue ....why did you have it done anyway unless it was very large it would not have given the dog any problems if was large then o.k. but why the hurry they do get smaller sometimes or even disappear...i would not even contemplate getting a hernia repair unless it was very very large and if it was just massage it occasionally to check if soft and leave it to at least a year old...i hope you realise that it is hereditary so if you breed with the dog it will come down through the line all or some will have hernias and the ones who do not will still carry the hernia gene so it may raise its head in the next generation......

if the hernia is not overly large, you might have been able to leave it. Does the vet say that the hole has been closed? Do you know what the hard lump is? Is it just scar tissue? Personally I would not allow the vet to operate again since he appears to have bodged a relatively simple operation. Try to find another vet. This may not be easy. Perhaps you can contact the government dept which controls vets, or find some reputable dog breeders and ask their advice about good vets?

A hard lump sounds more like a suture reaction or an infection.I think it would be best for your vet to explore it and make sure it isn't any complication from the surgery as well.Depending on the type of hernia, it can be an emergent situation or one that can wait. There is no real age limit on those types of surgeries.Make sure your puppy is not licking at it or rubbing it.Good luck!!

You don't say what type of hernia, so I presume it was an umbelical hernia. Personally, I'd be reluctant to put a young pup through another anaesthetic so soon.

I think you should visit your local vet. I wouldn't risk my pets life on advice that came from yahoo answers.
