Charley was a great puncher and counterpuncher with a very unorthodox style. He was avoided by Billy Conn, Jake LaMotta, Marcel Cerdan, and Sugar Ray Robinson and never received a title shot. He was never knocked out and he could hit you from any angle. Graziano was a tough fighter too and had knockout power especially in his right hand. I believe had they fought and for the title that Burley would have won an exciting fight. He would have been too good for Graziano in my opinion and won by TKO in 7 rounds.

Charley Burley - A little tidbit of info. Ray Arcel said he once had a conversation with Sugar Ray Robinson when he was the Middleweight Champion. Arcel asked Ray why he wouldn't give Burley a shot at the title. Robinson said " Ray I thought you were my friend." Even Robinson, as great as he was, avoided certain fighters.

addition___ This info I got from reading a book called "In the Corner" a book about great corner men/trainers. Arcel in his interview for the book never mentioned that Robinson didn't give him a shot because of money or because Robinson was avoiding him. Now I don't know Robinson's background well enough to know the reasons why. But he must have respected Burley and his skill as a fighter.
He spoke to him about this while Robinson was visiting Ezzard Charles' training camp. Arcel at that time was Charles' trainer.

BURLEY WAS A GOOD FIGHTER. RING MAGAZINE HAS HIM #86 RANKED PUNCHER. HE COULD NOT KO CHARLES, MOORE, ZIVIC OR BIVINS. HE WAS NEVER KO'ED.

BEFORE THE ADVENT OF THE MANDATORY DEFENSE BY A CHAMPION A LOT OF GOOD FIGHTERS WERE AVOIDED/DUCKED.

BRENT'S EXPERTISE/LOGIC SHOULD TELL HIM THAT ROBINSON AVOIDED/DUCKED OR WAS AFRAID OF NO ONE. IF HE HAD WATCHED THE HBO SPECIAL ON SUGAR HE WOULD KNOW THAT RAY FOUGHT NO ONE IF THE PRICE WAS NOT RIGHT. ROBBY WOULD HOLD UP A FIGHT ON THE SAME DAY FOR MORE MONEY.

THIS FIGHT COULD BE A 15 RD DRAW OR A LATE RD FOR BURLEY.

EDIT:
BRENT YOU ARE CONTRADICTING YOURSELF, IF YOU DON'T KNOW RAY'S BACKGROUND OR MUCH ABOUT HIM THEN HOW CAN YOU ASSUME THAT HE RESPECTED BURLEY OR HIS SKILLS AS A BOXER.

Burley is in my view the second one in simple terms proper fighter by no skill to carry a international call, after Sam Langford. He replaced right into a slick, quick counter puncher with a good protection, good skill and replaced into very difficult, by no skill being stopped in one hundred professional fights. In his career he beat many correct combatants, consisting of international champions from 3 diverse weight divisions, Fritzie Zivic, Billy Soose and Archie Moore, regrettably he by no skill were given a reigning champion to shield adverse to him. searching on the movie of him vs Oakland Billy Smith he jogs my memory of a extra orthodox version of Roy Jones Jr. Vs Jake LaMotta: LaMotta is amazingly underrated like Burley. He replaced into saved from a attractiveness shot for years and so fought all of us round, consisting of most of the contenders that the champions of the day didn't want to wrestle. He beat maximum individuals of them, consisting of Sugar Ray Robinson. i imagine that any guy who ought to conquer a mushy Sugar Ray Robinson ought to face a probability with any middleweight. it should be very close and that i visit work out Burley taking a range yet i ought to p.c.. a best, determined LaMotta to facet it. LaMotta UD15. Vs Graziano: As Stone stated, with respect to Graziano, he replaced into proper hand, sturdiness and coronary heart. He hadn't were given a lot interior the way of technical skills. I doubt Graziano ought to take Burley out regardless of if he did land his familiar proper because Burley replaced into by no skill stopped and that i do not imagine he ought to outbox Burley so i ought to p.c.. Burley to take a sparkling decision. Burley UD15. Vs Zale: Zale replaced into very difficult and is likewise particularly underrated. If i'm not incorrect he's interior the right 5 of helpful middleweight call defenses and that is in spite of him dropping 3 of his best years to military service in international conflict 2. Zale replaced into difficult yet should be outboxed, regardless of if i ought to imagine best Zale outworking Burley i ought to p.c.. an on type Burley to take a thorough decision. Burley UD15.
