i came back from work today and my maid told me my cat had been sleeping the whole day. anyway, i was rubbing him and then noticed that he looked different from usual. his nose was flat and there was some substance in his eyes.

my cat is a very lazy one who doesn't really enjoy playing at all but loves to be cuddled. today however, he ran away whenever we approached him.

he has been losing a lot of fur the last couple of months. we brought him to the vet who gave us many pills which cost $200 altogether yet his fur didn't stop falling off. he also happens to be 12kg.

is this just a symptom of old age? my cat is only 7 years old.

the old pictures are the one on the top left hand corner and middle column while the ones i took today are the grainy ones.

there seems to be a wider gap between his eyes as compared to before. also, i just noticed that his mouth is hanging wide open right now.

My neighbor just lost her cat, who was 20 years old. Your cat of 7 years old is still very young.

Your cat’s problem is not a symptom of old age but a symptom of obesity.

My cat, who by the way is 14 and full of energy, used to weigh 4 and a half kilos (10lb) and then she got an operation and took on some weight. Now she weighs 5 and a half kilos (12lb) and thankfully, she stopped there with a good diet and outdoor exercises. She is a female cat and I guess a male cat could weigh much more but still 12kg (more than 26lb) is overweight. Maybe your cat is running away whenever you approach him because he’s afraid you’re going to give him more food or more pills!

You say your cat is lazy and doesn’t really enjoy playing. Of course, with all that weight to carry around, it must be hard for him to just move.

Please, tell your maid to not feed him too much. Watch his diet, let him lose some of his burden so he can start to move and feel better. Also, know that it is natural for a cat, a fit or an unfit one, to sleep the whole day. You should see them I night scratching the carpet and running up and down the stairs when you’re sleeping!

Well first off, seven years old is NOT old for a cat. And truth be told the vet should have been able to tell you what the problem was since you already had the cat there and all. I would say call the vet and ask him/her hey whats wrong with my cat you just looked at him and didn't tell me what is wrong with him. But if the cat is avoiding you or human contact then he is sick. That is something that cats do as a rule. If or when they get sick they avoid human contact and at times will even find a place to hide. I would get back in touch with the vet and ask him.

Please, immediately find a new and better vet! 7 yrs. old is not old for a cat. They are middle aged- 40 yrs. human yrs. Probably still wanting to play-something-I don't know what-is terribly wrong. Was the cat let outside-possibly got in a fight with a neighbor cat or dog? Could he have mange? Losing fur, sounds like something very serious is going on. Take care. I hope he gets to feeling better really soon-once he goes to a better vet.

First of all your cat if very pretty and second I don't know why your cat is loosing his hair that is so strange. I have a cat who is 4 and she is loosing her hair too. But that is do to her scratching herself alot. When the Vet gives you pill and they don't work I think you should call a different vet and tell them what is going on with your cat and they can give you a different answer than what your vet gave you. Keep trying and don't give up your cat is not that old and you don't want to loose your baby. Good luck

I've read somewhere in an article about cat diseases, the symptoms for flat nose and runny eyes is a sign of a very serious disease, aswell as extreme shedding and weight loss might be the side effects for those pills, especially for your cat species, so take it to another vet a.s.a.p!!I in the mean time, feed it lots of vitamins and water as well as catnip and a pheromone releaser to calm him down and stop him from running away and sleeping alday

I would get a second opinion as it could be the pills causing this. Your cat doesn't look very well to me in the grainy pics either and 7 is very young for a cat! Get a second opinion if you can, if not then get that vet to look at him again! There's surely something wrong if he isn't himself....poor kitty. After all, you know your pet better than anybody....don't wait any longer! Get him in!

No, my cats were older than that and that didn't happen to them. What kind of pills did the vet give you? What did he say was wrong? Maybe you need a new vet. If you can afford a maid, I think you can afford a new vet.

Additional suggestion for your additional details: Call the vet, or find another one.

Can be age. Some species live longer than others. Talk to the vets office and find out the side effects of the medication. That may be a contributing cause.

sounds a bit strange......are you sure it is the same cat?! If you are, then perhaps he's been in a fight, or someone had kicked him or something.Get him checked out by the vet, as the nose doesn't sound right - perhaps it is broken, I would think it would be swollen and sore if that was the case, but you never know
