I think you're speaking about Judas not Judah. Both interpretations are correct. Judas hanged himself and his body was too heavy for the dying tree limb and his body fell and opened up.

PS: The Bible makes for really good reading and you'll get a better understanding of your own questions.

You mean Judas, right, not Juda?

Mat 27:5 ..and went and hanged himself
Acts 1:18 ...he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

So, he hung himself and then his rotting body fell to the ground and burst open. Quite gruesome, thanks for the study. Now why do you think there are two versions to this?

3. He replaced Jesus on the Cross. (Common Muslim speculation, though by no means proven from Qur'an or hadith)

4. He lived a long and fruitful life, invested the 30 pieces of silver in some sort of business, achieved Roman citizenship, and relocated to Alexandria or Corinth.

I'm going with 4. I just love happy endings.

Mathew's scenario won the Oscar. In reality Judas went on vacation to Londinium [London] with his thirty pieces of silver and leaved a happy life with a popular transsexual known as Xanthippe.

He hung himself. To betray the Son of God, I sure would have hated to be in shoes, but it happened like it was supposed to.
