Some of my guy friends--who are really not that hot--seem to be picky when judging girls. What's up with that? I mean, let's face it, some of them have no chance with those girls at all. Are they really that blind about their own level?

A guy doesn't ever want to feel that he is below the other guys in his group of friends. Its probably a social stigma that has something to do with our fathers telling us to be the best and be tough, etc. Really, it just makes it more difficult to accept the truth which is often construed as weakness.
Also, girls are brought up to know everything about looks and attractiveness. Boys generally are brought up to pay hardly any attention to it.

I agree!!
My guess is somewhere deep down there they know they're ugly, but have managed to block it out n build some sorta wall... psychologically speaking... so they don't die of any inferior feelings!
And maybe to try and blend in by doing what everyone's doing... judging people who physically are way better than they'll ever be...

I've heard this kind of thing said before, these men know they have no chance so they can feel its ok to judge this way. Also its alot to do with self loathing and self esteem issues i think.

lol ..maybe coz they r trying to protect themselves ? like if he "said" that the gal isnt hot n if he were to ask her out n she reject , he can say its ok she's not that hot lol .. im not a guy so im not like totally sure either ..
