From what I've read of the Bible, what I've heard from the random preachers and ministers etc, it sounds like Christians truly believe the heart to be an emotional organ and not in any way metaphorical.

What's your opinion?

By metaphorically I mean in contexts such as "Let Jesus into your heart".

Btw, you're right about it being in literature and such. Literature however is different to belief.

i agree, i have no idea why some folks are so into it like they are and have no perspective on context or reason, like sheep with a credit card

Metaphorical? In what sense? People have written about the heart as being the essence of emotions throughout history. Read some love poetry. We all do it today too, with no regard to a religious standpoint.

It's one of the few organ that you can hear an feel moving continuously in a living person or animal. In pre scientific times, in was therefore believed to be an emotional organ, not just a muscle and valve thing.

the word heart can mean more than the organ
