Hey there, i have heard that many times also... In my job i walk for 3.5 hours a day and tho i love my food i still have to work out at the gym, even now i am struggle to loose the 1 stone i want 2. in my knowledge its the intensity of the workout that u do, and tho walking will burn cals running will burn more and get u fitter quicker and create muslcle which in turn needs more calories to feed it.. if u prefer walking i wud suggest u include a lot of hills to up the intensity or same if running, if u use the treadmill in gym as i do a lot use the incline button on and off , also its easier on your joints if u include some off road outside like over fields to prevent injurys... also its important to build up ur running gradually or it will seem hard... i am starting again myself once i rid my cold... I heard the same thing, and I question it too. I realize that it take a lot longer to run a mile than to walk a mile. Remember that we burn energy just sleeping. If you burn 50 calories am hour watching tv and 200 running a mile. It takes an hour to run a mile and 2 hour walkin a mile. You would burn 250 running a mile and then going home to watch tv compared to 200 just walking the mile. THe numbers are definetely not accurate.

I've been told the same thing and had tested the theory out on the tread mill so yes it is true! and the reason we jog and run in my opinion is it saves time, for example some people can run 10km in 45 mins yet walking might take 1.5hrs so i find in our busy life styles it better to run! it has its downfalls though for example stress on the joints so the decision is YOURS but remember anything is better than nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jogging get's your heart rate up higher than walking. Working out with a higher heart rate excersises your heart as well as your muscles, and burns more fat. More than just burning off the calories.

you can burn more calories walking only if you go on the treadmill and do the hill climb for the same amount of time that you would do running ,but be warned doing the hillclimb is harder than running cause when you run if you get past the pain barrier that time when your body is saying no more it gets alot easier.
