Check out this link about Dark Paganism http://www.waningmoon.com/darkpagan/ The book "Out of the Shadows an Exploration of Dark Paganism and Magick" is a very good read.

I guess in some respects you could call me a Dark Pagan because I practice my religion along the Left Hand Path and I do honor what are considered the darker deities in Norse Mythology.

Yes. There are as many pagans as there are any other religious adherents. I am an atheist, as such pagans are strange allies in the persecution of our lifestyles. Read ancient Greek philosophy, it's not fluffy. Read the bible and the koran while eating a chicken sacrificed to the unholy power of the Colonel ... that will get you far from fluffy.

Try looking outside of paganism. While such things as ceremonial magic or Chaos magic aren't expressly "dark", what you may be seeking are magical systems that are a bit more intense and involved than your average Wicca 101 text.

Unfortunately, a lot of what gets passed off as "dark" paganism is just as fluffy as Llewicca 101--except it's been dipped in black dye. There are deities that are a lot more aggressive than others, and you're certainly welcome to work with them. However, as I mentioned above you might try looking into other magical systems; it could be that what you're looking for isn't so much style as substance.

Here are a couple of links to get you started:

Also, in regards specifically to Chaos magic--in this case, "Chaos" isn't really the opposite of Order--it's Chaos in the original Greek term, meaning (to put it very simply) potential. Think Chaos as in quantum physics. So Chaos magic isn't about causing havoc and destruction; it's simply a very practical, results-oriented form of magic.

Hey, you've got one right here.

I have not come across anything that represents itself as "dark pagan" that isn't simply standard Llewellynism with black hair and heavy eyeliner.

So, then, what to do?

What you might consider is simply researching the pantheon that you're interested in working with. The gods and spirits that you harmonize with will probably represent the type of energy you're used to working with (e.g., death/rebirth, night currents, sexuality). The practices that you feel drawn to and those that you adapt for yourself will come to reflect your own practice. I would have to know more about your interests if I was going to recommend specific books. If you'd like to discuss this in greater depth, please feel free to contact me. Gods know I'd like someone on the same wavelength to chat with.

All the best,

Lazarus

Sometimes I think Dark Pagans have more brains than your usual Religious Fanatics.. Maybe when they had the witch hunts back in time, they realized just that.... And so, like typical fanatics, look what they did???

...dark pagans? Surely the term pagan encompasses those who worship the more sinister deities as well as those who worship the benevolent ones, and both.
