They will alllllllllways come down. Car salesman are whores. At least their Managers are, anyways...

Shoot them a ridiculous number that is at least 30% less than what you are realistically willing to spend.

Then let them spend their time fighting their way up to you actual budget.

When they get to it, buy yourself a car.

And be ready to play the waiting game.

Remember - They are never doing you any kind of "favor", no matter what they say.

They are just in it to make a sale... you have to remain emotionally distant from a large purchase like this.

Don't get suckered into anything because buying a car isn't exactly something reversible.

Good luck.

For the record......... if you really want to become great at getting deals on vehicles.............. you gotta buy a few........ you know? You live, you learn.

A Main car dealer will sometimes negotiate or throw something extra in at no cost. It is best to do this the last four days of the month, as he wants to keep his sales as high as possible for that month.

buy a sunday paper and look for dealer ads. Red Tag sale is one. Prices are posted on window and original sticker is on other window. Sunday papers also list current rebates. Last years models are always on sale, marked down. You might find an 06. Car rental companies also sell 1 and 2 year olds.
Make an offer at any dealer, they won't laugh at you or throw you out. Or ask, what can you do for me on this car.

Always say "I'll think about it" and start to walk away.

oh, yes, it is possible. First thing you want to do is to find out the cost of the car, and take it from there. Don;t look at their invoice price, look online at costs of the car. This will give you a better idea to work with. Also, when you do, say you have X amount of dollars, and be willing to walk away if they dont come near what you are wanting to pay. Money talks louder than you ever can. Once you are walking away, most of the time, the deals start wheeling :)

Obviously a car dealer is not going to sell for less, however Blue Book pricing ultimately sets a base price you can use to negotiate the best deal for yourself.

If your offer is reasonable.. usually the car dealer will contact you with a counter offer... stick with your offer & usually they will compromise and give in some.

You can negotiate price on a used car with a dealer. For a new car there isn't much room.

Every dealership is different.

Some are stern on prices while most are open to other offers. There are many things that affect the price of your car

1. Time of month (end of the month most dealerships have monthly quotas, so best to hold off)

2. Where you live (different states have different offers depending on time of year)

I hope that helped. I got a 2006 Toyota corolla brand new this summer for 14200 before tax. I had to travel out of state to do it but you will find something worth while.

Good luck!

yes, you can do it for the new car too especially if you're paying in cash.. Just have the attitude "hey, you're not the only dealer in my area, I can buy the same car for less over there" They will usually lower the price cause its better to sell the car for a little less than for them to keep the car another couple of months

Yes it is possible. And it is becoming more and more common. I know people that have saved thousands by haggling with dealers.

The internet car buying business is going to really start cutting into dealers' profit margins.

http://www.edmunds.com will submit your selected vehicle to dealers in your area. Just select your car, enter your zip code and click on "Free Price Quote" and dealers will compete to sell you a car. Click on "View Full Dealer Directory" to see all of the dealers in your area.

The answer to this is yes, they have a margin with which to give and take and if you have cash money you can talk turkey to anyone, you just let them know from the start that you are a cash customer and you will be surprised at how far backward they can go
