I experienced that in my childhood and we consulted a doctor.He told us that is because I am having some tiny worms in my intestine.He gave tonic and it got cured.

I used to grind my teeth as a child. A lot of people in my family do that. It could be hereditary. I clinch my teeth at night now and wake up with a sore face. I believe that is due to stress. It could be that it is both physical and psychological.

Periodontal (a gum disease) can also cause severe teeth grinding...So it can most definitely be a physical condition as well.

i think it is heredatory as my father does it too. i think that it is heredatory. also it is when you are stressed (or could be im not too sure, i have never got mine checked out). i hope that i have helped.
