can you people also state reasons for your answers please? I would like to see a reasonable and detailed reply.

People, I'm metaphorically speaking of course. That's why we are in religion and spirituality. Am I that hard to comprehend? I've asked this question for 3 times and it seems like no one gets it.

People, I'm not talking about science dammit! Why do you think this is the R & S category?

ooh!! yay! a metaphorical quiry! my favorite!

I feel that the closer you get to any source of light the more likely to are to obscure its brilliance from the distant viewers.

The light may engulf the person, as its brightness may overwelm and stimulate intense vibratory action with the more material parts of the indivual... but perhaps dispersion is the goal, and coagulation is the vice.

So, how come you never answer MY metaphorical questions? are you not around? I always get a bunch o' weirdos answering... not quite comprehending my inquiries...

This isn't a perspective question. If you get too far away from the sun, you freeze. If you get too close to the sun, you burn. It's a matter of too much heat or too little.

Which is, of course, a good approach to spirituality. If you move so far away from it that you cease to value a sense of wonder and awe, you're really missing out. If you get so close that nothing else matters in your life, you'll eat yourself alive with neurosis. It's best to keep a healthy distance - enough to bask in the glow, but not lose yourself entirely.

Hail the Lukewarm,

Laz

p.s. - A metaphor works because its imagery is analogous to another situation. For people to start with the concrete image, that of the Sun, and then proceed to weighing out the possible meaning of your metaphor is natural. I know that some folks just stopped there, but I know that I'm not the only one who went on to say something about how the image applies to religion. Calm down and let people give you answers - both good and crappy ones.

Okay okay, people let me help you out, she's not talking about the SUN literally....

Jesus Christ is called the "Light of the World." What you're asking is the closer we get to Jesus are we warmed by His light or are we burned by our own inequity?

The answer is, both. As we walk down the path we are called to walk, we get closer to Jesus and feel warmed and reassured by His presence. But the closer an object gets to the Light, the brighter it makes us, and our dark, sinful, evil natures are more easily seen. This is embarrassing and sometimes painful, but God tells us in Micah chapter 3 that He will sit and refine us like silver.
In order to refine silver, you have to hold it in a flame until all the impurities are burned out. Painful but a beautiful thing in the end to behold!!

God bless!

Oh man, Nice try, but we cannot be closer to the sun, especially since the universe is expanding.... I learned that in SCIENCE...Of course we hear about global warming, but the Earth has been there before.. The only burn we'll get is Coppertone oil sun bathing....Get a LIFE...

You do know that during winter in the Northern hemisphere, the Earth is closer to the sun ?

Well of course you won't believe that if you still think that the earth is the center if the universe as prescribed in middle eastern tales and legends but I digress...

That depends on every person. And that depends on what the sun means to every person. For some it may warm them up the closer they get to it, but for others it may burn them the closer they get.
Sorry for my very short answer, but that's the whole explanation! And from my answer you can create examples.

Burns up, warms up, one happens just before the other doesn't it.

I feel you'd freeze to death in space first but once you got close enough to feel the radiant heat it would probably heat up pretty quick.

If your not talking about the sun but instead the son why don't you say the closer you get to Jesus.

Both? It's feels wonderful to bask in the sun's rays - but too close to any heat could burn you.

May God Bless You

Burns, definitely.

Anytime something -- literal or figurative -- has power or energy there is always the potential for misuse, damage, and destruction.
