Just curious...if so, where do you go? How old are your kids? Who do you leave them with? We have done a night away before, but not really a vacation.

I don't think it's mean to take time out for yourself and your husband. It's the best gift to your children to model a good relationship. However, we have always felt too guilty to do more then a night away.

Without attempting to sound too extravagant,we do both. We live beside the beach so during the summer, the kids love to stay around home and are not interested in taking a family vacation. We have a cabin in the mountains where there are lots of things to do and since almost all of us snowboard(except the baby 17months) it is a great way to spend quality family time together.
I have seven kids they are 18,17,14,12,5,3,and 17months so skiing/snowboarding is the only vacation that suits the whole family.
Although it is not easy to leave so many kids behind my husband and i try and get away on our own at least once a year. His mother is very good with the youngest three, the 12&14yr olds stay with friends and the oldest two are my step daughters so they either stay with their grandmother or are away at school.
We never go away for longer than a week it is just not possible.....and a week is long enough to revive our sexlife, otherwise we are happy to vacation with the kids.
I am originally from Ireland but now living in California,so sometimes we go and visit my family, sometimes with the kids too if we can afford the airfair.
When we get the chance to be alone for a whole week sometimes a hotel and spa twenty miles away is far enough.

I could never do a holiday without the kids. I would feel guilt that I got a holiday and they didn't. Kids want to be with you just a short time I will make the most of it
