Yes. The oldest one I managed to keep was 8.5.Most Budgies are prone to growths. If you are interested to know the average life span of a pet budgie, I have been able to find two figures obtained from actual surveys, though they are a bit old. The Budgerigar Society published a figure of 8 years in their Research Digest of 1979 - 1981. A lower average of 6½ years was published in 'Which?' magazine in 1976 or '77, and here mention was made that the top age found was 14 years. However, these figures will include individuals who died young because of inherent weakness, or because of some error on the part of an inexperienced owner. For a budgie already enjoying a healthy middle age, there is every reason to anticipate a longer than average life span.
The World Longevity Record
According to The Guinness Book of Records, 1995, the oldest budgerigar on record is Charlie, who lived from April 1948 to June 20th 1977 - a total of 29 years, 2 months. He was owned by J. Dinsey of Stonebridge, London, UK.!!!!!!!!!!!!

My oldest budgie will be 10 years old this year!!! Another budgie I rescued only lived for 2 years, despite medical care.
Budgies can get fatty tumors, liver disease and other ailments, even if you take fantastic care of them. They can even have accidents, even if you're the best pet owner in the world. Just like people, you can't predict how long they'll live.

A budgie that has lived 7.5 years sounds healthy and well cared for. And lucky. :)

In a cage the budgie does not have to look for food and water as that is available 27/7 and they do not have to worry to much about preditors. It sounds like you look after your birds, good on you. I have an 21 year old budgie and he is still going strong. He even helps my weerios in the nest with their babies.

My family used to run a pet shop and breed all our own budgies and canaries. I would say 2 years isn't long at all if they are properly cared for. If they are kept alone they don't usually have such a good life though.

Normally we would expect to keep them as pets for 5-12 years. We once had a 14 year old budgie.

We had a budgie that lived till he was 12. He was bald on top and we had to bathe his feet daily as they bled. He lived on the bottom of the cage for the last 2 years then one day got up on a perch but then fell off and died. I guess it.s like any pet some live a long time and others don't last long at all but i would think you must have been doing something right for it to live til it was 7. Ours used to eat chips followed by fruit salad and was allowed to fly round the house most of day so whether that helped extend his life I don't know.

Im getting all upset reading this. I have a budgie and hate to think of him dying. Hes like one of the family, he talks and everything. Hes only 4 on his last birthday though so he probably has plenty of life left in him yet

Around 7 to 10 years in captivity is the average. Some die sooner and some can live a lot longer. Part of it is genetic and the other part is environmental.

I would venture to say you took good care of your feathered friend if he lived 7 and a half years.

I take it your Budgie has died and you're feeling guilty. Perhaps you think you didn't do enough for him?

I'm sorry for your loss. If your Budgie lived to be 7.5 years old, IMO, you did a good job of caring for him.
