At that time he was a man. Men thirst, men anger, men fear. He knew what would happen. He knew the pain he would go through.
And, just like any scared son, he ran to his dad, and told him his fears.
But, in the end, he said:
"Not my will but yours."
And that's what matters.

In out theology, God is of one being and substance, but has three persons. These persons can interact, just as persons on Earth can do.

Don't forget also that Jesus also had a fully human nature. He could bleed, he could suffer... he could certainly (and would certainly) feel anxiety, knowing a terrible suffering would soon be inflicted on him.

Lastly, Jesus was an example and role model - he had to be seen praying and communing with God, because that is what he wished his followers to do.

That is why in John 12, when raising Lazarus from the dead, he says, "Father, I thank you for hearing me. I know that you always hear me; but because of the crowd here I have said this, that they may believe that you sent me."

In the garden the night before the Crucifixion. He prayed to God saying "if it be possible let this cup pass from me, but not my will, but yours be done". This is the son talking to the father. Yes they are both God. One is pure spirit and one is also human. It is a difficult thing to understand, it is like a family is God and the father is part and the son is part, but all are one.

In John, it is clear that Jesus, which is also known as the Word of God, was in the begining, and He was with God and He was God.

In Genesis, it was also recorded that God mentioned 'Let us. . . ', indicating one God, more than one person. It is God, but in 3 person.

So, why he beg God? For on earth, he was fully flesh, John 1:14, Word became flesh. Which flesh, in his right fame of mind, want to go thru, such punishment, to be hung, plus wipping. . . ?

Clear?

JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD.

And He was feeling the weight of the task at hand. He was going to take all the sins of mankind onto Himself and it was causing Him to begin to sense the seperation that sin placed between God and humans.

Control freak is completely right, he should get the best answer.
Just to add to it a bit, Jesus was praying in the Garden, read the Gospels (Matthew Mark Luke John) and you'll get the full story.
