A bunch of hidden files in my c:\windows folder named $NTUninstallKB568483$ and things like that. Can I get rid of these? Please don't answer if you don't know what you are talking about.

Yes, you can delete these if you're not having any issues with recent Windows Updates. That's what these are, uninstallers for Windows Hotfixes. I keep mine for about a week to make sure none of Microsoft's updates screw up my PC (it's been known to happen). Then, if everything is fine, I delete them.
The one you DO NOT want to delete is: $hf_mig$. These are your critical updates, security updates, drivers, and other files you don't want to lose. You can read more about it, and the difference between the files in $hf_mig$ and hotfixes here:

Hope this helps

Its advisable you do not delete those as they are either system files or Program files. U need to use this option only if u are very sure what program left this file and if that program is causing problems to your system. This does look like a windows file to me though I cant tell you for certain what it is... But first try Add/remove programs to uninstall any programs or the Uninstall button in the start menu under the respective program menu.
If that still doesnt work, look for this uninstall file, but again, be certain u are using the right one.....

do not delete those files. most hidden files are system files. that one, like the many that are on your computer are part of critical system updates. if you delete them, windows will most likely crap out on you in a few weeks. i'd put money on it because it has happened to many people whom i work with. they are small in size so leave them alone and hide the view options on hidden files as a precautionary measure to you.

Yes you can delete them. Just select all and click delete. Sometimes a message will pop up to say that ".... could not be deleted". That's okay. Those are the files that are mandatory for operation. If you can delete them then they're not in use

Your best bet if you don't know what you're doing is leave them alone. They're not taking up any space and remember the old saying....."If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Good luck
