One way to help the pain would be to apply some over the counter product like orajel, (but becareful, not really for long term use, ie more than just a few days). But to help cure this I've use plain hydrogen peroxide to gargle 3-5 times a day, (it would clean the wound and help heal and end the pain much sooner). Then I would take both the additional Vit.C (500mg) twice a day along with Vit D (400iu-800iu) daily, (this would also speed healing). In the past I've tried tetracycline suspension applied onto the sore several times a day but that would need an RX from your MD, and since this is an old remedy I doubt if they make it anymore. (I've made that suggestion once to an MD and the swore by it was a godsend).

In addition to the vitamins c and d.... vitamin E works great on mouth sores. Just open up the gelcap and spread it on the cut, then swallow the rest of the capsule. It's good for you.
I bit my cheek and had a lot of scar tissue. The vitamin E cleared it right up. =)

you may be able to eliviate the pain a bit by swishing around warm water with epsom salts in it in your mouth - it might help heal it faster too.
or wrap a big piece of guaze and tape around it.

Gargle with salty water to kill the germs.
In the mean time, don't eat any deep fried or baked food.
