because he interfered in military matters and got soldiers killed and injured. politians and military don't mix. politians should have nothing to do with military strategy

According to Bob Woodward in 'State of Denial', Rumsfeld was the architect of the Iraq fiasco. He didn't communicate well with those under him nor his peers, including Condi Rice. He didn't tell the President about the reality of Iraq. He really screwed up and he deserved to be removed from his position.
