A dozen roses are nice to get, but I think that's for a bit more of a serious relationship. There's a wonderful romantic gesture in just giving a single sweet smelling, gorgeous rose also. So it really depends on your situation and what kind of girl you date.
Dozens can be costly, and if you know your man (or woman) loves you then the quantity shouldn't be a question. It's just a flower and it's going to die eventually anyway. A bit of a waste of money...
I prefer just the one.

I would appreciate either one. If I knew my guy couldn't afford one dozen, I wouldn't expect him to get it.
A bouquet with a few roses and some other mixed flowers is also nice.
