That shouldn't be seen as sexist, it is just good manners. I personally love that sort of thing and am always pleasantly surprised when a gentleman does something like that.
Good for you, keep it up.

Because chivalry is a sexist privilege women used to have. I have no problem personally, but for chivalry NOT to be sexist, wouldn't there have to be something women are willing to sacrifice in exchange to the advantage?
As long as things are fair, it doesn't matter to me, but neither gender should have more more privileges without shouldering a balance of responsibilities.
It is EQUAL rights is it not? Sexism works both ways.
I still open doors for women though. On the other hand, I do the same for men too - its just a nice thing to do for a PERSON. I don't have any problem with doing things for women at all. Its when its expected or when doing something just to be nice starts a tirade that I get bugged. 99% of people are cool though so its never really an issue.
One thing is for sure on equality - both genders are made up of equal amounts of cool people and idiots.

I've generally found most women are equally polite and hold a door for me, surely it is just 'good manners'
Usually it's the 'militant' femanists, & idiotic Politically correct 'GOODERS' that are the trouble: these people using all the indivdually stated & specified Race relations / Equallity acts or what ever guise they are in, have created MORE Ill-will, with such petty things, i.e. "Blackboard" NOW Chalk board, while more serious problems of genuine racism/sexism become over looked because the public are sick to death of hearing about councils/unions spending thousands of pounds to pollitically correctly rename/label everything, and hound indiviuals, who slip and say 'black coffee, instead of cofee with out.
Sorry I've wandered a bit there but it's the same tiny minority that don't want equality but superiority, the vast majority if you are reasonable with them are alright with you.
Men & women are equal but evolutionary different, simply evolution has given women the biological equipment for internal child development, men not, they have the advantage of size & physical strength. Rememeber, I'm looking from a social preditor veiw point, just look at any social 'pack' hunter today.
It appears that this idea, that women were '2nd. class', springs from the fanatical advent of the worship of ONE - GOD, , so called Paganist/multi diety faith(or Satanists as the Religeous Fundamentalist, all religeons worshipping one-god would call it.
Same with Marx, no where in his volumes, does he state that a woman can not dress as a woman, wear make-up, or whatever. But having had the misfortune to run into some of these, and clashed with the Hysterical P.C. nutters, then you are in a " no win" situation, so quitely treat the P.C. fanatics with the distain they deserve.

That's not sexist, it's just polite, though it can depend on how you do it which I know sounds a bit silly but some guys manage to give the impression that they are doing this only because they feel the poor little flower can't do it herself. Some women are more sensitive about it than others. I think it depends on how confident the woman is about her place in the world and her capabilities. Insecure women are more likely to react badly to it. Me, I'm fairly well adjusted so you can carry my bags anytime.

Maybe you are listening to the wrong part of the population. Regardless of what values you have there will always be someone that opposes you. Sometimes because they honestly feel you are wrong and sometimes because they are just trying to get attention by stirring up controversy. Either way, one thing you can be sure of is that the most destructive forces to society are always the ones that are going to cry the loudest because they know they aren't really worthy of being heard. A person that is confident of his beliefs will gladly let the morons speak because he is satisfied with his own life. Notice the advancements made in recent years in various areas of civil rights. The current push is for gayism to be accepted as normal. And the reason those people are being catered to is simple. Inspite of the mass destruction this movement has caused on a societal level, those people who are comfortable with the way God created them have no real reason to make a scene in the first place. Life is good when you live by the laws of nature, regardless of the world around you. There's really no difference in the area of "women's equality". There are still plenty of women that appreciate the differences in manhood and womanhood. But the women that really despise the fact that they are women are going to try as hard as they can to rock the boat in hopes of tipping us all over.

Why not do the same for everyone if you feel we have an equal standing ? If some guy is weaker than you would you carry his bag ?
It seems more polite to me to help anyone less able than yourself, so maybe women think it's sexist because they believe you are putting them down.

I believe that women > men
Life would be completely pointless without females. Women are the most amazing and beautiful things in the world. Oh well, I guess that makes me a raving sexist.

I see it as my duty.
If they are serving in the same capacity, why not?
I pay my staff according to the following:
Qualification portion.
Function portion.
Capacity portion.
year of service.
Normally, women will loss out in capacity, due to their commitment for the family. For when the children cries, who would they turn to? Daddy? Who should they turn to? Maid/ Nanny?
I am pro-family, and see the function of women as supreme at home. Not sexist.

I don't see it as sexist. Please help me open doors and reach things from high shelves. You don't need to stop being a gentlemen because of a few ungrateful women.
You should, however, hold doors for everyone as a matter of politeness. I don't open doors and stand to the side, but I hold open the door behind me until the next person takes it, male or female. It's just common courtesy. :)
