I hate it when people flash their lights at me! Only stupid rude peopel do that! The only reason I never retaliate is so many of these idiot drivers also are stupid enough to have guns in their cars too!

Well, actually, where did it say in your driver's manual to flash your headlights at anyone, for whatever reason? Dimming them is one thing, but most people take flashing, or flipping the high beams on and off, as agressive behavior. Turning them off momentarily is seen as a bow and courteous wave. Flashing them on, or flashing the high beams, is taken as a yell or puffing your chest -similar to typing in all caps in an email or chat. But none of that -except for dimming your lights when others are approaching- is covered in a driver's manual.

You may not have meant it to be agressive at all, but most agressive drivers will take it that way. An agressive reaction, and especially throwing anything, is uncalled for, and can result in a ticket. Safest thing today is to not try to signal somebody else -especially a stranger- for any reason. You never know when it'll be taken wrong and turn into road rage.

(Edited note: My advice of not signaling others refers to the use of headlights, not turn signals or brake lights, obviously, or true emergencies, like telling someone the gas pump hose is still hanging from their tank!)

Did you flash your lights because they had their high beams on? Or were you doing that old school flashing lights thing because there was a cop ahead and you were warning them? Either way, you didn't do anything 'wrong'. They are jerks and you could have reported them somehow because they threw something at your car which I'm sure is illegal.

Flashing the high beams can cause a temp. blindness. You can take down the plate number of the person who through something at you and call in a complaint.
