Ferrets are very seasonal in their breeding cycle and babies are generally only born in the spring. Both male and female ferrets come into season when the days begin to lengthen, it is hours of daylight and not temperature that determines it so if you keep the ferret indoors it can effect it's breeding cycle. You need to ensure your ferret is neutered before she comes into season or she can easily get a womb infection which is very dangerous. I know this because it happened to my first female ferret, luckily I spotted it in time. Because ferrets are very small animal they really need to be full grown before the operation can be done otherwise it's too hard to the vet to find the bits. I suggest you consult your vet and ask how soon s/he would be able to do it.

If you are getting it from a pet store then it might already be fixed. Ask them.
If not get it done before the first heat. Probably at 4 months.
