Good theory, but it's called ethics. We can genetically engineer plant crops, but trying it on humans and even higher animals is still very much frowned upon.

What would we do with the "tall" people in the mean time? Exterminate them for being a lesser breed? Would you line up to be first for that?

Whatchu talkin bout man!!! It'll disturb the ecosystem. Let Nature do its job and not us. Well, scientific studies have shown that a new generation of man will evolve after some lac years which will be shorter in height and will have more mental power, but that wil be a natural evolution and by then other species of other plants and animals will evolve. Who knows, by then a new science may emerge and our needs of housing, food, education etc. may just disappear. Give someone a tablet containing all the nutrients one needs for a week and no need to kill animals or plants for food. Program someone's brain with all the available knowledge when he's born and no need to teach him/her/___( well who knows some other form of species may emerge by that time!!!) anyhing. Create a worm-hole in space and you may be resting in any part of universe. So new science will automatically solve all the problems.

Well, it's a humanitarian issue. Basically, that means we have no problems with genetically engineering other animals, such as developing sheep with more wool or cows with bigger udders. This type of "unnatural selection" suits our purposes, you see. However, creating smaller humans - why that's barbaric, even if it does make sense from an ecological standpoint. We sure can't allow that.
