I have just been offered a beautiful puppy for free from the person who owns the parents. Mum is a ridgeback/mastiff and dad is a mastiff/ rott/ridgeback. The little girl is absolutely gorgeous light brindle with black mask and socks and is gonna be huge. Now the problem is that i already have a doberman with skin problems (generalised demodictosis-mange non transmissible) and when i saw the pups mum she had eczema apparently bought on by the pregnancy but i am not sure about that. The puppy has exactly the personality i want as well, i just dont know if i should take on another dog that may or may not have skin problems. I also have 2 kids and a part time job. I really really WANT this pup but SHOULD i take it?

My kids are 3yrs old and1yr old and i was kind of thinking of getting another dog and my husband sneakily surprised me with a visit from the pup. Cost is not an issue with the general care of the dog, nor is training i am just worried about possible skin problems because i have considered having my dobe euthanised due to her skin problems (untreatable and extremely bad).

I am also worried that i have 2 kids and a job and i know i could cope but i dont really want to run the risk of neglecting my current dog but would she appreciate the company. She has met the pup and fell in love she is a momma wannabe

first take the cost of your dobie and take it times 2. if you're still good there then think about the training and vet care, spaying her, crate, food and exercise schedule and the general potty and other training that goes along with a puppy. just think to when your dobie was a pup. are your kids able to help with another dog or will it take time away from them? if you answer all of these questions honestly and succussfully then yes get the pup! good luck. and thanks for thinking about it and not just getting the pup. shows you are a good pet owner and mom.

Well you've offered a lot of "why not" get the dog, how long is your "get the dog" list? The mum may have skin problems from the pregnancy and the pup will more than likely be okay. Ask the current owner if you can take the pup to your vet for a check-up and see what they say. If you just want the dog because you "have to have it" you may be only thinking of your own needs/wants. Think about this some more and make a list of pros and cons. Talk to your kids about it too, they will be involved in it's life so get their feelings.

I think you should if you feel you have the money and time for it.
