Not by that name, although every Rabbi and yeshiva student owes them a debt. The closest match to them today is likely the ultra-orthodox Hassidic movement.

Sort of. Of the major sects wihin Palestinian Judaism that were around in the 1st century, it was the one best placed to survive the destruction of the temple and Jerusalem in 70CE by the Romans. The Sadduccees were closely tied to the temple and lost influence after its destruction, the Zealots perished at their last stand at Massada, the Essenes died out, so it was mainly the Pharisees, with their emphasis on the Bible, obeying the law, and rabbinic scholarship, who managed to survive as a religious community, rather like the Jews during the Babylonian exile who also had no temple. The other groups to survive were the Christians, who are now considered a separate religion from Judaism, and the Samaritans, who were not considered Jews, but whose religion based on Torah may be considered a form of Judaism.

The pharisees often served in the new Testament as examples. Mostly bad examples of hypocritical behavior. You have probably seen religious leaders and politicians that remind you of pharisees, but I don't know if the title is still the same..

i believe they do. I know the South African Anglican church condones gay marriage. That is hypocritical and un-christian. So in a sense, they are pharisees.

Pharisaism is a sanctimoniousness,self-righteousness. A hypocrisy! False piety, formalism. I think that if they exist it would be in a secret society or in their own mind. It is possible that someone of a past life is living again...rebirth is a complicated subject.

Not in the sense of the first-century Jewish party still existing today - but there are certainly those in all religions who are Pharisaical and literalists in the same mold!
