My husband's immediate work supervisor recently gifted us a VERY handsome gift certificate at a home furnishing store as a wedding present. And it was way too generous. I have already spoken to him and thanked him for this wonderful gift and my husband wants me to send an email additionally. But I feel a hand-written note is a better idea to express thanks. What do you think????

NO EMAIL! Some young people think this is the only way to communicate these days! Write a nice thank you note for every gift you received, and be sure to mention what it was you received, and how much you appreciate it.

Hand-written notes are the only acceptable thing to do.

Congratulations! I hope you have many happy years together!

How about you find out if you can get money back from the store if you don't use the entire amount?

If you can, you can either give some back, use it to buy him a thank you present.

If you can't get money back, you could still buy him a present. - something appropriate that balances things out so to speak.

Even though you both feel its too much, you should be proud that his supervisor cares enough to do something as grand as you say. In a way, that's the best gift - he really values the two of you.

Its probably a gift of belated thanks for his hard work and for your help in making him a better person.

A hand-written note is a much better way to express thanks - and it should be the way you express your thanks to everyone who though of yourself and your new husband on your special day! Get to writing dear! From personal experience, this usually falls back on the woman, even later in life, when husbands receive very nice birthday or Christmas presents, you'll probably be responsible for doing the right thing and making certain that the gifter receives a nice card or note. But I've found that at least the men don't ask too many questions when you stick the card or note in front of them and ask for their signature. In fact, my husband seems flattered, releived and thankful when he reads a thank you note I've prepared for someone who has been especially generous to him or to us.

A hand written card is much more preferable. A nice addition would be to put a little Starbucks gift card inside the thank you note.

You should send hand written notes to EVERYONE who gave you a wedding gift. My husband and I got married out of town, so I went to the gift shop at the lodge we stayed at and got post cards with a drawing of the front of the lodge we got married in and sent those as thank you cards. Everyone loved them (epically those who couldn't make it) and they cost less to mail!

the hand written note makes things a little more personal so yes that would be a better option than an e-mail.

yes , a hand written note is the way to go, they have it in a concrete way and that is the proper method. email can go up in smoke with less than a thought.
