So I'm wondering if there was recently a storm in the northern part of British Columbia... Anywhere near Fort Saint John in say the past couple weeks or anything unusual.

There have been several severe wind storms in BC over the past few weeks, including one on Tuesday of this week, I don't know if the wind storms went as far north as Fort Saint John, but it is likely.

I do know that they got plastered with the current snow storm that hit early Wednesday morning.

Yes, BC has had three major storms recently. They were called November, December, and January is the current storm. Few trees remain standing.

Whalewatching (there are regular excursions leaving from Victoria) is something i will rather advise. aside from that, on my own recent trip I spent maximum of my time in Vancouver itself, so i do no longer possibly have any extra concepts for Vancouver Island.
