No such word in German. I can imagine what word you want, but I'm not telling you. It's not used any more in polite company.

There is no such German word. The word that you are probably referring to used to mean a person of African origin, with no more negative connotations than the German word for "black".
The similarity to the Englisch derogatory expression for a black person has (fairly recently) made it politically incorrect to use it, in spite of the fact that for most Germans the word "schwarz"(=black) means a person with politically right-wing views.
The correct trnaslation would be "African" these days, wherever the person really comes from.
