Goodwill ambassadors are people who support, speak out for, and promote specific causes and organizations such as UNICEF. Governments, especially the U.S., recruit well-known personalities to serve as goodwill ambassadors, in the hope that these people will be able to persuade corporations, trusts, and wealthy individuals to contribute to a cause.

Goodwill ambassadors are usually financially independent, as they receive minimum monetary remuneration for their services.
Two well-known personalities serving as goodwill ambassadors for UNICEF were Audrey Hepburn and Angelina Jolie.

Jerry Lewis is considered to be a "goodwill ambassador" for the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation. His hosting of the televised marathons for Muscular Dystrophy raised billions of dollars for that organization.
