I know they get dark from lack of sleep, but what is physically and or chemically happening in the body to cause this reaction?

The collagen in the skin under the eyes actually breakdown when we lack of sleep which makes the blood vessels more visible.

yeah it could be allergies. but also could be related to eating habits. liver problem could be as well. best to get it checked out by your doctor.
to cover them just use make up, but to take down any swelling if there is any its best to put teabags in the freezer then rest them on your eyes for 10-15 minutes or so. works a charm!

I have them, my doctor told me it was allergies. I get matte makeup, and it works pretty good covering them up
