What a great question!
I cook both,
Talapia is so cheap compared to other fish. To answer your question...I like both the texture of the talapia and the flavor of the catfish.
Talapia really has no flavor to me I have to season it good with lemon, salt and pepper. Sometimes I make a creole sauce to go over it ..it's tomato, green pepper, celery and onion with some garlic salt and pepper cooked in oil or butter> I simmer all by itself...When the fish is finished pan sauteed. in another pan...I then combine the two..
To me the catfish is best dipped in buttermilk and then breaded in a mixture of salt, pepper, flour, paprika and cornmeal shake together in a big plastic bag. Remove from the bag and slowly ease into the hot oil. Make sure the oil is not too high in the pan or it will come over the top when it starts to fry the fish.
One last thing start the fish out for frying in hot oil so the breading will stay on the fish. but lower it to medium so it does not burn. You can't leave the stove or believe me it will burn when your head is turned....happy new year and enjoy the fish!

it depends. both are freshwater and are often from sources that are polluted. In my experience both can taste like pesticide. That aside, Tilapia takes on flavors better from other ingredients because it is a milder fish. Catfish is a bit fishier, so if you are a fish fanatic, you might like it better. Personally, i'd go with orange roughy or snapper, both mild saltwater fish that tend to taste a bit cleaner.

anybody has a distinct selection of tastes. individually, i do unlike breaded or fried fish, as i think of it ruins the flavour. even with the undeniable fact that, i understand some people who will purely consume those types. My own widespread out of the recommendations is the blackened catfish. i think of that whilst you're thinking golden fried, the flounder may be the better of the two to have. Who knows, you will get there and discover something else all mutually.

I prefer tilapia too. Never have been fond of the taste of catfish and I have tried it several times. When I prepare talapia at home, I usually dredge it in Parmesan cheese mixed with a bit of salt and pepper and pan fry it.

Talapia by far--it is a mild white fish, without a strong "fishy" taste and catfish is a bottom feeder, so it tastes like dirt.

I prefer catfish, because I love the taste of fish. I eat talapia, but it's quite tasteless.

Both are good eating fish. I personally prefer catfish, but the taliapa filet blackened is hard to beat too.

My favorite is CATFISH.......I do love perch fish too, but it stinks up the house so bad for days when you cook it. I've never tasted tilapia.

It depends on one's mood. When fried, tilapia is tender and juicy with crispy fins. Catfish, on the other hand, is almost always crispy, which makes it good as both a meal item/entree/viand and as a stand-alone snack.
