It takes about 40 minutes to make cornbread.
Ingredients:
¾ tsp Salt
1 tbsp Sugar
1 tbsp Vegetable shortening
1 tsp Baking powder
1 tsp Baking soda
1¾ cups Stone-ground Cornmeal
2 cups Buttermilk
2 Large eggs
Method:
Set the oven to 450° F to preheat it.
In the meantime, put cornmeal, baking soda, baking powder, sugar and salt in a large bowl and whisk them together.
Put the eggs in a bowl and beat them well until they are fluffy.
Pour butter milk to it while beating the eggs continuously.
Mix cornmeal and egg mix and stir them until they are roughly blended to get the cornbread texture.
Pout the vegetable shortening in the center of an 8" x 8" glass baking pan and heat it in the oven until smoke rises from it.
Pull the pan out quickly and pout the batter in the pan.
Bake the batter for about 20 to 25 minutes or until the top of the cornbread is brown and when you poke a sterilized needle in its center and pull it again, it is firm and needle comes out clean.
