So what’s wrong with the idea that the Bible is full of metaphor and symbolism? Some of our deepest forms of communication use these (poetry) and so do the deepest recesses of our own minds (dreams).

Why do Christians run from the seemingly obvious notion that the Bible is not strictly ‘factual’ but often metaphorical when metaphor is such a profound way for us to understand our world?

Yes!

We also use "tone of voice" and "body language" when we communicate with each other.
Once sentence said in one tone of voice can be genuine, the same sentence in another tone of voice can mean a completely different thing.

One nod of the head can mean one thing....another nod of the head can mean another.

Communication is an eloquent and complicated venue. How dare anyone assume that words are the "end all" result of communicating with each other.

Christian thought isn't too quick on the symbolism.

They think I worship idols because I have statues on my altar. They can't fathom the idea that it's not the statues I worship, but the Divine they represent. I wonder if they also think a soldier salutes the flag and not the country the flag stands for.

interior the video for Garth Brooks' music Thunder Rolls, whilst his spouse rushes out to greet him and he or she gets a whiff of yet another woman's physique spray, he provides her a tremendously good beating, to the component the place MTV does no longer teach the video. the line is, "And the lightning flashes in her eyes, and he's familiar with that she is familiar with, and the thunder rolls". The lightning is her popularity and the thunder rolling is him beating her. i think of there replaced right into a sanitized video after the actuality.

I agree 100%. I don't think I could add any more to that statement. I mean question. It answers itself.
