Yes... it happens when you're a compassionate soul. There's never a pain-free way to tell someone you don't love them. The best you can hope for is that they have the strength to deal with it (and people most often do)

Oh, yeah. My most recent ex was a lazy jerk. Example: He had 4th of July, which is just before my birthday, off from work, so he asked me to come over and spend some time with him after I got done babysitting around midnight. Instead of waiting for me like he said he would, he locked the door and went to sleep without telling me not to come over! I had to walk across town by myself in the dark past all the bars in town and I was never so petrified in my entire life, but I still felt guilty and cried when I broke up with him a couple weeks later after he repeatedly failed to apologize or see what the big deal was with a teenage girl walking across town by herself past midnight on a holiday when everyone is out partying and getting drunk!

Yes, my first boyfriend was a asshole and was really messed up. We were both really young and going through alot of personal issues. I broke up with him after 6 months and he was absolutely devastated. He cried to my best friend for weeks. I also cried when i had to do it, i knew he loved me but it was alot his own fault. I felt guilty and hurt. It was really hard.
