The gifts will be evident if you are called.
I'm sure you will sense most of all the Lord has called you to do this. This is not something you can conjure up on your own (although some have tried and failed miserably. have sat underneath some very bad preaching in my time.) some should really take the time to seek and pray before deciding what they should do in ministry. Because there are lots of different area to serve the Lord under the title of "ministry".
Some are called to preach. Some to teach.
Some to do senior cicitzens ministry. Some to work with youth.
Reading through 1 & 2 Timothy can be a good tool to see if you feel the same desire in your heart that Paul spoke to Timothy about.
Also, doing a spiritual gifts test can help you discern what your spiritual gifts are if you are seeking to do ministry. There are several good sites out there to answer the questions and see the results. These tests are not fool-proof, but can give you some asisstance in this area.
Most of all, talk with your pastor. Go out to lunch some time and sit down and talk about what you are feeling in your heart. If he sees in you the same thing you are feeling, then he might give you the chance to put together a message to preach sometime in a church service. Stay in close contact with him and pray with your pastor about this call to the ministry.
And, keep your nose in the Word. If we are going to preach or serve the Lord in any way, we need to keep close to God's Word so we know what the Lord is saying to us. It's impossible to preach without it.
Hope all that helps some how
e-mail me personally if i can help further

1) A calling to preach comes from God - for me this resulted in a desire to preach the word that would not go away I had to do something about it
2) Pray and aske God to confirm that this is indeed His calling for you - if it is real there will be confirmations
3) Speak to your pastor or minister - they can often see if the call is real
4) You will then need to study - to preach the Word you need to know what you are talking about - often this is a very good test of the call - if studying is too much hard work then the call is probably not real.
5) Take it a step at a time try and work with your pastor or minister and allow him to guide you as you begin this ministry
6) Step out in faith - If God has called you you will not fail and you will receive many confirmations of the call from many different places.
God Bless

Hi Virginia, I'll take a look at my fine to reply this elaborate query. I believe a minister of any variety must reside inside a slight earnings as a way to sail along side those who should not have some thing. Some do hold forth the gospel for cash, the ones do not need any rewards in heaven. I do not like to look a minister residing as a few wealthy swindler taking capabilities of persons. At my church that is massive, they have got many paid employees contributors which are serving to within the church. I understand that persons have a household and must now not be residing in poverty simply when you consider that they're operating for the Lord however it must be a slight lifestyles sort. With a few persons, the extra they get the extra they wish. Our pastor stated Sunday that he's praying that persons will undergo financially if they're residing aside from God. He wish NEED will force them to the Lord, which occurs traditionally. But if the persons are very deficient, for you to restrict his earnings additionally. God be with you Virginia

If you have a strong urge to preach the Word of God, if you have a passion for working for God & saving souls, if you see that people listen to you when you speak, then you are called to preach.

Go to seminary and learn what the Bible says (Dogmatic Theology) - and - also what the Church has traditionally taught about what the Scriptures say and what they have traditionally been interpreted to mean. If you think you are going to have anything new to say - fuggeddaboudit. First of all - it's been said already and better than you will ever say it....and - good training and formation in homiletics will keep you from straying off int heresy.

most of it starts with does said man have an urge to speak his message to others. you can call this a need to "yak" or a need to be with other people. if not then go to seminary and see how you/the man would be as a preacher. my father thinks he is a teacher, but he can never follow his outlines and he gets sidetracked to the wrong subject everytime. We feel he is a giver. Also ask your family/have man ask his family what they think his gifts are.
