My good friend is applying to be a police officer, and the County Sheriff send me a questionaire about my friend, and I filled them out. Would it UP his chances if I wrote a letter of recommendation to the Sheriff, or would he just ignore it?

The best thing you did for your friend already was return the form. You wouldn't believe the number of references that don't bother to do this.
You can send a letter of recommendation, I would consider mailing it to the section detailed with background investigations.
It is a good idea as the others said to be to the point, provide examples of their good character (like a newspaper clipping of them rescuing the hermit crab from a seagull) or whatever they did.
I used to be impressed with former teachers who cared enough to write also. But, I agree with the people who say don't lay it on too thick. Saying they saved the life of the President during a fight at at a biker bar might be bit much.
Honestly though, just returning the paperwork was a good deed and if you friend gets hired, then they oughta buy you dinner somewhere!

Depends on who you are. A letter of recommendation from a friend does not carry as much weight as a recommendation from a former employer or, in this case, another law enforcement official in a command position. That being said, write the letter; a positive statement always helps. Keep the length to a page. Long winded letters often just don't get read.

If they send you a questionaire about your friend then I think they might be interested to read about your recommendation too. Don't hurt to do it.

it is hassle-free prepare, to have a former worker write their very own advice letter. i do no longer understand what your job replaced into yet be honest, make your self look good and concentration on your good factors. have been you there regular, once you have been meant to be? How is your artwork ethic? What have been your household initiatives? Did you artwork properly with others? Did you artwork properly in my opinion? those are purely some suggestions.
