ok so i was playing ultimate frisbee, and i dove for a frisbee and rolled on the ground. I actually caught it, but some how i managed to knee myself in the face, and i hit my front teeth pretty hard. Originally my 2 top ones hurt alot, but now it's just the left one. It's been 3 days and it still feels pretty weird and im not sure what to do.. what are some signs that the tooth is dead or is gonna fall out? it's not really that loose, but it feels really weird if i push back and forth on it.
But what changes when it's dead? so far all i know is that it changes color to a greyish color....does the sensitivity change? is it more loose? any information would be helpful here
Thanks for any help

A dead tooth often becomes dark or turns black because of the rotting material inside. There may be no symptoms at all and someone can walk around with a dead tooth for years before becoming aware of it.. The dead tooth often becomes obvious when something else happens that runs the patient's immune system down, such as a bad cold, pneumonia or a severe viral infection.
A dead tooth can be caused by tooth decay, trauma, deep dental fillings, gum disease, or in some cases, tumors. Once a tooth dies it will never return to life again. The contents of the tooth liquefy and putrefy and seriously endanger the owner's health.
You should go see a dentist to check if your tooth really is dead and seek treatment for it.
There are only two treatment options for a dead tooth, tooth extraction or root canal therapy. There are no good other choices! Of course, you could keep the dead tooth in your head but remember that the brain is only about three inches away.
A dead tooth becomes brittle and can easily split in two or pieces of it can fracture off over time. This is especially why it is important to have a root canal, build up and crown done on your dead tooth as soon as possible, otherwise it could be totally lost due to a severe fracture.

If this Frisbee accident was just a few days ago, it's too early to tell if your tooth is dead. Pretty much all of the answers above are very accurate, except for the one about breathing. (I liked that one, though.)
A tooth will have "stunned tooth syndrome" for a while after a trauma and even a dentist can't test it accurately to see if it has been "killed" or not. Usually after something like this, your tooth will just heal and be fine. Watch your diet. Don't bite down on anything really hard and don't rip into a sub or hoagie roll and pull with your teeth. Don't test it to see how much it wiggles. This is like walking on your twisted ankle to see if it still hurts. It will prevent healing.
Since you say, "It's not really that loose," I think you will be fine.
However... if the blow was hard enough, you might have trouble with this tooth 4 or 5 years down the road. At that point, all of the symptoms others have mentioned will become evident. There is nothing that you can do today to prevent this from happening. Ifthe damage was done it can not be un-done. Just be alert to any changes in the future.
I say, "4 or 5 years," but I just had a young man come in with a dead tooth EIGHTEEN YEARS to the day after he fell on the blacktop. I think that's got to be some kind of record.

Sensitivity might disappear because the nerve is dead. The tooth could and probably would turn black. The dead tooth could infect your jaw and lead to bone loss. Go to the dentist and get a professional opinion though.

it changes colour to dark blue or even gray or black. so any change of colour indicates a tooth is dead. but it usually takes longer than a few days for a tooth to change colour if it is dead. u might do an xray - this will show how the things re with the root
