My dog is nearing the end of her pregnancy is there any signs as to when she will go into labor before? Such as getting milk or anything like that? I know soon but is there any way to narrow it down. Any help would be appeciated.

They become very restless right before giving birth and try to find a safe place, "nest", to give birth in. Then they start panting rhythmically, it sounds like Lamaze breathing.

There are several things that would indicate birth. First of which is the to hide somewhere. If she is about to birth my suggestion is to watch her closly if she gets away from you in this weather there could be problems. She will try to nest, seat up a place in your home away from you other animals, and out of the way of heavy traffic, make her the most comfortable you can I.E. Try and give her some room to breath and relax as this will be stressful enough for her with out added anxiety. Second the nest should not be any kind of cloth or other linen as this could suffocate or strangel the pups. Put a food and water dish near but not extreamly clost to the nest. If it is too close she will fear for the pups and move then or "hide" for there saftey. Now to the birthing part of it. Once she is ready she will find her quiet place and begin to have labored breathing and start to have contractions although you may not be able to tell right off. A good sign is that her belly will start to harden and relax. Always Always when this happens give her space but do watch close she may need help. If this happens you will know the pups wont be coming out easy and she will start to panic. Simple rub the belly and the pups and if that does not help pull gently on the legs but make sure no to rip them out of her. and dont cut the cords let her eat them. If a pupe comes out still in the sack you will want to tear it open and let the pup breath. If not it may die.

She will start looking for a spot to give birth.Set her up somewhere out of the way where you can keep an eye on her but where there is no one else around or any other pets you may have.The best advise that I can give is to use newspaper before & after the birth instead of material items that the pups can too easily suffocate.Keep mamas water dish & food away from birth area.Mama will get up & get a drink when ready.If the water is near,,she will try to move the pups. Congradulations!

They get really restless and will start panting heavily, if you see her trying to get underneath something or trying to hide somewhere that is also a sign...Alot of animals if they are attached to you Big Time they will want you eight there with them...My dog did that with me :}
