i often find myself waking up in the mornings with severe stomach pains and i am just wondering what is causing this. at first i suspected it was heavy drinking but i laid off for weeks and the problem persisted. i then suspected that i was not eating well so i solved that problem too but still no change so what could be causing this sever pain

with the limited history you gave ( drinking, poor diet habits ) ill try to hypotesize, i suspect you also smoke, drink a lot of coffee and probably have a stressful job, this are all very good recipe for a gastric or duodenal ulcer, most ulcers start out as gastritis which are minute erosions of the gastric mucosa ( the lining of the stomach ) they usually heal with behavior modification ( stop drinking, better eating habits ) but i suspect in your case this already has progressed to an ulcer ( acid in stomach already eating into the lining of your stomach ) ulcers do not heal by themselves unlike gastritis, acidity levels in the stomach needs to be modified with drugs,,, the newer PPI ( proton pump inhibitors ) such as ( generic name : pantoprazole, omeprazole ) are very good for this... meanwhile i suggest going to a Gastroenterologist, a doctor who specializes in diseases of the gastro-intestinal tract, he/she will probably do an endoscopy ( scope inserted to your mouth to check out your stomach ) ( not really as bad as it sounds )...if untreated a hole in the stomach or intestine might ensue leading to a syndrome known as " perforated peptic or duodenal ulcer " in which case surgery might be needed, so i suggest you see the GI man as soon as you can... thanks, hopefully i was of some help to you...
P.S. im also an M.D., but not a G.I.T.

Stomach pain or bellyache may be caused due to a problem in the organs in the abdominal region. The main organs in the abdomen are the digestive system consisting of the stomach, small and large intestines, the liver, the gall bladder , pancreas, the appendix and the kidney. Minor problems like gastroenteritis can cause severe pain, while fatal illnesses like cancer may cause only mild pain. Its the activia yogurt for definite, did the equal factor to me, its now not valued at the soreness I could as an alternative think usual like I do daily than drive that chit into myself, and endure for days after. I inspiration I could check it out when you consider that I've bought alot of time for yogurt, its my favourite. Except for Activia now. Thumbs down. Terrible stuff. There are whole boards committed to the unhealthy reactions persons have from it. Google it.

Don't listen to none of this sh!t on here, GO TO YOUR DOCTOR. You should never have the pain you are describing for so long. You need to have your stomach checked out by a doctor.
