He may be developing an interest in you. It sounds like he may have been asking these questions to guage how you would react to them and see if there may be some interest on your part as well before he lets himself go further.

He most likely likes you. I would take it as a sign since I know I have said that before and I know where it comes from. This is just my opinion though. As for the several hours apart. If you like him, get to talk to him enough, and will get to see him once in a while, with hopes of getting to see him more often in the future, then who cares about distance. I had a relationship with my ex for a year n eight months and she lived four hours away from me. The only reason we broke up is because i was acting stubborn and foolish.... which suckz. But back onthe topic, he most likely likes you, if you like him then get into a serious conversation with him about a similar topic and then bring this topic up. If not then hint at him that your not interested.
On a side note. What would totally melt a girls heart? Considering the guy is her ex.
