or "honoring" has been the synonym of "worshipping" before anyone knew it?

because as far as i have heard and observed, Catholics are being accused of "worshipping" the Virgin Mary and the Saints whenever Catholics explain that they just give due respect and honor for them. is it possible that they understand "honoring" to be the same as "worshipping"? if so, then when God say, "honor thy father and thy mother" does that mean, "worship thy mother and thy father"?

note: there's no reason to resort to insult for christians. i simply want to know, how the word "honoring" is being understood by so many.

Hold on folks... You have had someone pray for you on your behalf, right, or asked someone to pray for you?! Or prayed for someone...? Same thing. If we all had done that, then we're all guilty sinners that need to cast stones on ourselves.

Ironic, how the CC is labeled as sexists for not allowing female priests, but when confronted with the Virgin Mary issue, she's reduced to the butt of all jokes...

...and I know someone was going to bring up the whole "worshiping idols" argument. If you think it's a sin... Before you go bashing the mother of Jesus, who is God incarnate, may I ask, does everyone have a picture of their mother, to keep as a remembrance, or keepsakes? Do you sometimes "awww" or shed a tear, or grin ear to ear at the sight of a mere photograph?

For goodness sakes, yet everyone loves to display that Mickey Mouse souvenir or tune into American Idol every whatever night it is...

And by the way, God said he was a "zealous" God, not jealous... Way different meanings.

We, Catholics, walk by faith, and not by sight...

Mater dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus.

The word worship really means to give the honor due. A statue crafted with skill or lovingly preserved for centuries my be worthy of some honor in and of itself, and also that which it reminds us of also.

The word worship, has degrees in Latin, which Catholics who study can divide out. The highest, of course, going to the Holy Trinity.

Praying to a saint is simply asking someone who is known to be in Heaven, to intercess (not mediate) on your behalf.

Good point raised... Adding to the same, Christians are suppose to honor Jesus(pbuh) not worship him as he never asked anyone to worship him.
Do you know why Jesus(pbuh) went back to God alive.. Coz he will come back to this planet and ask people making God his witness...' DID I EVER ASK YOU PEOPLE TO WORSHIP ME'...
and the people who worship him instead of just honoring him will be in big trouble.. Coz there is only one God and that is ALLAH who has no partner. Nothing is like Him. He is the Creator, not the created, nor a part of His creation. He is All-Powerful, absolutely Just, All-Knowing, All-Merciful, the Supreme, the Sovereign. There is no entity worthy of worship besides Him.

Worship God and Jesus thats all you need to know is thats all you go to.
Jesus said,No mediator shall stand between man and God.
Now relize that this phrase means don't go to a priest for confessions because you should go straight to God for that.Don't say The Hail Mary because once again your hailing her for help...she's also the mediator in this insatance.
Don't look at the statues and pray.It also says in the bible do not pray to Idols for I am a jealeous God.It also says that being Jealous is a sin.But actually anything God wants is by his word only. It's actually ok for him to change his mind. He's all powerful.
Honor means respect in this aspect.haha but remind your parents of the phrase in the bible that says let the child lead the way. They'll learn from what you're teaching them.

I agree with those who have pointed out that honoring and praying have very different definitions and implications. Mary deserves honor, but I never understood the practice of praying to her.

According to biblical text, Jesus exhalted his mother, Mary, by raising her into heaven and placing her in a seat of honor, much like U.S. Presidents do when they appoint a Supreme Court judge.

Catholics revere Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and seek intercession through her to her son, who consults with his father, God. Sounds like the Supreme Court to me!

What an interesting spin. Catholics pray to Mary. The bible says there is only one God, and only one mediator between God and man, Jesus Christ.

I just read another post by a Catholic who claimed the church has more authority than the bible.

I guess this explains it.
