Man invented many gods to explain the natural phenomena they could not explain (why does the sun rise? why does it rain? What causes the oceans to rise and fall each day? etc) and over time those gods evolved into the God of Abraham that most people worship now. Because man can now explain all the natural phenomena around us (except maybe why Britney Spears is so popular) with science we don't need a God or gods.

I think Man created God in his own image. That's why he usually looks like (is depicted as) a big bearded white man, kind of like Santa Clause in a white bathrobe. It seems like a cultural flaw that has been handed down to other cultures with little translation.
I guess it works metaphorically, but the tendency then is to imprison God in say, a person, a book, a building . It perhaps makes it a whole lot easier to get people (including oneself) to go so far as to kill and/or die for these things than it is to live for them.
God must be manifested through Man, I believe.
("Be the difference you want to see in the world" --MK Gandhi)
But we are doing a heck of a poor job at it.

Why do you think so many billions of people have worshiped a God of some sort? Because it is in us(most of us) to believe, or want to believe in something greater....to take away the hurt, the worries, fears, and the questions. It was a need given to us for guidence. Do you not agree that anyone can become either good or bad with certain influences? Thus our NEED for proper guidence in right and wrong was put in us by someone....GOD.
Hope that answered enough for ya! :)

I think most religions say that God came first. This is not confined to the Bible.
Honestly, I really don't mind atheists. I've heard this argument for many, many years. The real question is, 'why do you attack others beliefs?'. I'll tell you. Pride. You want to feel superior to other people and think that by not believing in God, you are smarter than the stupid people who go to church.
Is this the only way you can feel better about yourself?

Man.
The God of the Bible is just one of THOUSANDS of gods that men have invented throughout history so to try to explain things they don't understand, and to control others.

God came first because Allah the only one God has no beginning and no end.Allah created the skies, stars, moon and sun and other planets and this earth with all of its contents including humans, animals and vegetations in six periods.Allah created aslo angels from light and satans from fire
Humans have been created from soil.,because humans are alive by eating and drinking which come out from the soil..The human mission is making propsperity by working together and dedicating
their lives for Allah as their creator..

Man created God, Goddess, Heaven, Hell, all that, so we aren't so alone in this big universe of ours.
Belief creates, that's where got came from.
Man wrote the bible to give themselves 'more proof' of God's existence. (or a source for moral values and one of many decent ways to run your life)

I won't give you quotes, but that is where my answer comes from. If you want tangible proof, it is something you will never obtain, since you can't go back to the creation of man or God...
My answer is God btw.
