After a long day - like one of those you worked your butt off, you are irritated and almost too tired to go to sleep - I would crawl into bed with a nice cup of hot chocolate or Thai tea and drink it in utter silence with only one light on. Then after I drank it, I turn off the light and lay down while embracing the peace around me and think about all the patients I met that day and of my fellow medical students, all trying to cope in our hectic world. And for that moment, even though it might be just for a little while, life seems to make a whole lot more sense...

the faces will not smile normally during sleep. The facial muscles relax, and the jaw drops. Sorry, it will take at least 38 muscles to smile. These muscle have to relax at some point, its too abnormal to make these muscles work for hours on end. Think about the wrinkles.

I'm with JMK on this one. Life at my hospital is hectic. I see up to 30 patients a day and ALL have individual needs. But thinking of the difference I have made to their lives makes me feel good.

one thing that always makes me smile either asleep or awake is a police car on the back of a recovery truck. one less brow beater on the road can only be a good thing

Walking on a deserted beach at sundown, picking up shells and hearing the birds as they wheel overhead. Just knowing that I'm alone, relaxed and unwinding.
It works for me everytime.

it varies.somethings thats been said, or seen or experienced. sometime its comfort knowing i wont go to sleep alone. sometimes it is because i am going to sleep alone.
today i'm smiling before i go to bed because it was my 40th birthday and my 16 year old still loves me-that speaks a million words-makes me feel like i'm doing something right.
