well if you two still talk and keep in touch with one other then it is easy.the next time you two are talking just ask him what he may be doing on friday or what ever day you intend to ask him out to luch,dinner,movie or what ever.he will tell you if he has anything going on or not and will probaly ask you do why and there is your opportunity.
