Every one here is going to tell the breed of dog they have is the best dog for kids, well a lot of them are wrong. You need to research the many different breeds and make an educated decision on what you think is the best breed for you and your families lifesyle. AKC has a web site with descriptions of all recognized breeds of dog. AKC.org You could also read a few books like Encyclopedia of Dog Breeds, or Idiots Guide to Chosing, Buying and Raising a Dog.
If properly trained and embraced as a beloved member of the family, any breed can make a great pet. With that said, some dogs are seen as more “kid-friendly” than others and, as a result, have become extremely popular among families. According to the AKC, the five most popular breeds in the United States are:
Labrador Retrievers are by far America’s most popular dog—more than 140,000 Lab puppies were registered last year with the AKC—and have a reputation for being playful, hardworking and affectionate toward children. The Lab is easily trained and is highly respected for his prowess at many jobs: as a guide dog for the disabled, a search-and-rescue dog, and for narcotics detection.
Golden Retrievers are sporty, easy to train and strong, but their most outstanding trait is character. They are outgoing and devoted companions to people of all ages, happy and trusting. They make great hunting companions, too.
German Shepherd are noble in appearence and character. This breed's courage, steadfast heart, and keen senses have endeared him to families for generations. Active and outdoorsy, German Shepherds are very fond of children and make wonderful companions.
Beagles love being around people and other animals. They are gentle, happy companions who thrive on affection and attention. They are also clever, quick, and, most of all curious. They need plenty of active exercise.
Dachshund has a lively, upbeat personality—spunky, curious and friendly. Originally bred to hunt badgers, Dachshund’s love to dig, romp and run. They are affectionate, especially with children, and enjoy going for walks and other forms of exercise
You should do your research before you bring any animal into your home. A dog your is a responsiblity for the rest of its life and should not be bought on impulse.

Any breed can be good or bad with children and even within the same breed you can get dogs that are good and bad with children. The biggest thing is training both the child and the dog on how to behave with each other and don't trust them to be alone with eachother until you are 150% sure that nothing will happen.
The number one thing to do is pick a dog that is right for your families activity level. Don't get a lap dog if you want a hiking/jogging companion and don't get a high energy dog if you prefer sitting at home watching TV. You may also what to consider an older dog over a puppy as when you go to meet the dog you can get an idea if it's personality will fit with your family.

Just how well a particular dog will get along with children depends a lot on how that dog was raised. Dogs need to be introduced to and socialized well with children from an early age in order to get along with them. Nevertheless, there are some dog breeds believed to be just naturally better suited for children. The age of the children, however, is also an important factor. For small children, you'd generally want to avoid large, boisterous breeds like German Shepherds or Bullmastiffs, though these breeds may be ideal for older children. On the other hand, small or toy dogs can do well with children, particularly older, considerate children, but many will not tolerate the antics of young or ill-behaved children. A few breeds that many believe to be good with children include Beagles, Bearded Collies, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Boston Terriers, Bulldogs, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Newfoundlands, Pugs, Samoyeds, Siberian Huskies, Springer Spaniels and, of course, the all-time family favorites, Golden Retrievers and Black Labs. Keep in mind, though, that just because a particular breed is believed to be good with children, there are no guarantees. All dogs need to be well socialized and trained.

I agree Labs and Goldens are great for kids. I've had Boxers that work out great also. Mastiff breeds are know as the gentle giants and are good with kids. I would go with a medium sized dog as small dogs can be nippers with small children.

I strongly recommend a mutt. Always had mutts when I was a kid.
Never was bitten either. I have a four year old, and a mutt. They're best friends, but it really depends on the dog. All breeds can be aggressive.

Yeah there sure is - my personal favorite is the Golden Retriever.
This article may give you some suitable options http://www.dog-obedience-training-review.com/best-dog-breed-for-children.html
There is heaps of good options but it really comes down to each individual dog and the socialization and training you provide.
Good luck

YES, ACTUALLY DIFFERENT BREEDS OF DOGS HAVE DIFFERENT TEMPERAMENTS AND NATURE ON THE BASIS OF WHICH THEY ARE MADE PETS GENERALLY FOR EXAMPLE DAUBERMAN IS GENERALLY LOSE TEMPERED AND IS VERY FURIOUS, HE CAN RUN VERY FAST AND HAVE A VERY GOOD HEARING AND WATCHING ABILITY ON THE BASIS OF WHICH THY ARE GENERALLY USED AS GUARD DOG.SIMILARLY LABRADORES,DALMATIONS AND GERMAN SHEPHARDS HAVE A GOOD TEMPER AND WHEN ARE GIVEN LOTS OF LOVE AND CARE THEY BECOME OUR MATES AND START TAKING OUR CARE SIMILAR TO OUR PARENTS THEY NOT ONLY OUR GUARDS BUT OUR BEST FRIENDS AS IN MY CASE . I HAVE A GERMAN SHEPHARD DOG "RAMBO" HE IS ONE YEAR OLD BUT HE IS NOT ONLY MY BEST FRIEND BUT ALSO THE ONE WHO MAKE ME SMILE IN ANY SITUATIONS.
ONE MORE THING , IF U PREFER DALMATIONTON AS UR PET THEN U MUST KNOW THAT THEY ARE DEAF BUT IF U HAVE TAKEN THERE CARE IN A GOOD MANNER(U HAVE BROUGHT THEM UP LIKE UR OWN KID ) THEN THEY CAN REACH UP TO U WHEN EVER U NEED THEM AS THEY HEAR BY EMOTIONS .SO GO ON AND CHOOSE UR DOG
