It really depends on the church and the type of Baptist Church. There are so many types of Baptist Churches. For example, in our church, which is southern Baptist, you can only have been married to one woman to be a deacon (however, you could still speak to the church and reach out to people). In my parents' church, which is American Baptist, this isn't the case as my father is a deacon and has a divorce from when he was young. So, you really need to speak to the deacons or pastor of the church you have in mind and see what their church bylaws state and how you might serve.

I'm not saying that my church is right in this either. I actually think we have several men in the church who would make excellent deacons but don't qualify because of this rule. But it is a rule that the church has. Not sure if it could be easily changed since it's in the bylaws. And I'm not sure if it is a rule of all Southern Baptist churches or just this one.

He could certainly become an evangelist in almost any church. If HIS divorce were a result of his wife's infidelity then he would not have any reason to be concerned with the divorce except that he could not be an elder or deacon. I would be more concerned with what caused the divorce than the divorce itself.

a divorced man can become any religion he wants to in a Church. Really it depends on the Church you go to though, Churches are all different, but just because your divorced doesn't mean a Church won't let you in the doors...
