I Actually had this experience! I used to take sinus infections lightly like most people. But now I know that it can be just as bad as any other infection! I didn't go to the doctor until my chest started hurting and I had a fever of 103. And this was a matter of about 1 week After i first started noticing the symptoms. Come to find out; I had developed allergies. And allergies can lead to a sinus infection. So now I take my medication! whether it be homopathic (Natural Medicine) or doctor prescribed. My sinus problems are now under control. But that was the most scary thing I have ever had happen to me.

I have taken care of several patients who have developed brain abscess from sinus infections. I also had a co-worker who had a sinus infection for 3 weeks they could not get rid of. Finally they did sinus surgery on her and she ended up dying from meningitis. Sinus infections and tooth abscesses should always be taken very seriously.

ALL sinus infections can be life threatening. Because they invade your whole face, ears, chest, your teeth. If your immune system is bad (lupus, HIV, allergies) you should always see the Dr for meds, when the symptoms start. Sometimes it turns into pneumonia, then you're really in trouble.
I take Entex every day. To keep my sinus's and ears clear. So far it's worked and I haven't had an infection for over a yr now. ( I've had allergies for all of my life...)

I was twice hospitalized with acute sinusitis.

The first time, they had to operate and I didn't wake up for 4 days.

I was in the ICU in critical condition. the doctors told my parents I might not survive.

so, yeah, sinus infections can be a big fat hairy deal.
