Usually a 2 years, because at that age they are commonly fullgrown and mentally ready.

So you want to breed your Chihuahuas (adding to all the homeless dogs in the shelters) but you don't know how old a dog must be to be old enough to breed?
Congratulations for wanting to be yet ANOTHER backyard breeder.
Just to answer your question (and gain the 2 points): NO, NO, NO and NO. She is WAY too young to breed. She has to be AT LEAST 2 years old, 2 1/2 years old for smaller breeds. DO NOT BREED HER! You don't have ANY idea what you're doing!

It is best to not breed at the first heat. Think of your female as a young teenager. She will have less trouble with her 2nd heat. In any case do not breed before the age of one year (for a small dog) or before the age of 2 for a larger animal.

It's best to wait until your dog's 3'rd cycle before breeding. 9 months is young and your female may not be mature enough to care for the puppies. Most breeders will tell you 18 - 24 months which is around the time they should have their 3'rd heat.

A female of any breed should not be bred until she is at least 2 years old. So, no it is not ok for them to be together if she is in heat. It can cause serious problems to breed a young female, some of which could permanently harm or kill her.

In your case, NEVER! You clearly don't know anything about breeding! What have you done to test their health and genetics? Have you researched BOTH pedigrees to ensure they are a good match? What kind of titles are you working BOTH dogs towards to verify they are a fine example of their breed and worthy of breeding in the first place? Who is going to foot the bill if your b itch needs a c-section because you let her breed WAY TOO YOUNG?!
WE DO NOT NEED ANOTHER BACK YARD BREEDER LIKE YOU!

NO NO!! Any Vet will tell you to get past the first heat. You can do that and better do it now!! Sounds like they're talking it over to me. The second heat is the one, especially with a Chihuahua.
Good Luck!! @8=)

She is way too young. And if you don't know these things, you should not be considering breeding.
